Golden Apricot

Gone for years are the days
Of childlike peace and happiness
Lost for ages are the memories
Days spent in the golden sun
Even with the most amazing pictures
No one can stop the tide of time

All the time I spent in bliss
Perpetrating great schemes
Running among any surroundings
Including it in my games
Called back by my parents
One moment of childhood remains
The taste of a golden apricot

  1. Yes: "Even with the most amazing pictures/No one can stop the tide of time." I think about this quite a bit. I get lost in nostalgia and wish for another chance at a simpler time in my life and sometimes it keeps me from appreciating the now.

    1. Thank you for your comment. It's hard sometimes to accept that we can't turn our memories into reality, and that our past is too far away, no matter how close it is.
      Have a lovely night,

  2. Hey, Zachary! This is beautiful! I love the line, "No one can stop the tide of time." It really shows us that we have to relish every moment, and find the things in our life that can remind us of our memories (such as a "golden apricot"). This is amazing!

    1. Good morning, Meghan.
Thank you for your kind words. I actually quite like this piece and it reminds me of a piece I wrote a long time ago, called "Fireflies."
      Have a lovely night,
      Zachary

  3. This was another brilliant poem. I loved how you used peaches to portray hidden meanings and messages- very wise! Once again, this poem reminds me of a peach tree that my great-grandmother in Arizona had. Every year during the heat of summer, we would come over to her house and pick bags and bags and bags full of these sweet peaches that would grow. My favorite part was when my mom and grandma would make special dishes using the sweet peaches that grew from her backyard. You have a true talent with words that bring up so many memories!
